Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1927
The Thames from Blackfriars
In this print, Nevinson conveys London as a working city, going about its daily business on road and water. Seen through the smoke and haze, the boroughs of Lambeth and Westminster, south of the river, appear quiet and remote. Nevinson depicts the Thames as the central industrial and commercial route through the heart of London. Victoria Embankment and Blackfriars Bridge carry the crowds of Londoners on foot and in trams.
