Enfield
Enfield borough sits in north London’s outer reaches, with the River Lea on its eastern border. It’s home to the elegant Forty Hall, a stretch of the Lee Navigation – and is the birthplace of superstar singer Adele.
In Enfield Town centre is the medieval church St Andrew’s, which overlooks the market place that was established nearly 400 years ago. It’s also where the world’s first ATM was unveiled by Barclays Bank in 1967.
The Royal Small Arms Factory, operational from 1816 to 1988 in Enfield Lock, played a crucial role in British military history, introducing the Lee-Enfield rifle – used in both World Wars.
And strange goings on in a family home on Green Street, starting in 1977, became the most documented paranormal event in Britain, known as the Enfield Poltergeist.
